Why Seek Psychotherapy?
For some people it is because they are in a crisis. Things are going badly wrong, and they need to do something about it. For others it is a grumbling unhappiness with their work, with their relationships or with themselves. For yet others there is a pervasive meaninglessness or they can’t fully access their creativity.
There may be symptoms of depression, anxiety or bodily disturbance. Some people appear to be doing well in life and “keep up a good front”, others are only just keeping going. Each person brings his or her own constellation of strengths and talents, as well as areas of difficulty.
It may be helpful to have access to a trained person, who is not a friend or relative, to give a different perspective in a safe, therapeutic environment.
Approaching a potential psychotherapist can be pretty anxiety-provoking. I aim to make this as comfortable as possible.
